Centering Prayer/Contemplative Meditation

centering prayer.JPG

Contemplative prayer is a prayer of silence, an experience of God’s presence as the ground in which our being is rooted, the Source from whom our life emerges at every moment.”

~ Basil Pennington

The ultimate goal of Centering Prayer is Divine Union.  This simple meditation consists of quieting yourself with this intention: to fully empty yourself before Spirit and be filled with Divine Presence.

“To be full of things is to be empty of God. To be empty of things is to be full of God.”

~ Meister Eckhart

There is no active seeking here but a total surrender to what is and being completely open to God’s grace.   This is about God’s active presence within you, giving you the very gift of itSelf.   Within this gift you will also find, at the core of your being, the true essence of your nature.  Centering prayer when practiced faithfully can lead to major transformation and awakening.

The method involves resting in silence.  If anything would distract you from this inner reservoir you simply put attention upon a sacred word or your breath to bring you back to center.   Eventually, any need for refocusing will drop away as you may find yourself totally immersed in the presence of God.

We invite you to join us on Wednesday nights from 7:00 – 8:00pm for our group meditation practice.  If you are new to meditation please arrive at 6:45pm and our facilitator will share with you the method and answer any questions you may have.

We hope to see you soon!
